  1. Welcome to JungleDragon, Flavio!

Awesome photography. I have to say, Cylindromyia bicolor, doesn't look far off for me. Can you express what differences you see in particular?

    1. Hi Ferdy! The photos I've seen didn't look like the eyes are red like my photo and the shape of the rear didn't look exacly right, but maybe there are subtle differences like these in the same species right?
Thank you for your help :-)

      1. I must admit I'm not an expert on the species. They tend to be rare. I did notice the difference in eye color but wondered if perhaps flash caused it. I did see a few reference photos with slightly red eyes.

Indeed there can be variability between individuals and there can be differences between sexes. Plus, some genuses have many species looking near-identical.

Sometimes it's hard to come to a conclusion. Let's wait a little more to see what others think here and on iNat.

        1. First, welcome to JungleDragon! Second, I agree that is likely a tachinid in the genus Cylindromyia. I think Cylindromyia bicolor is a great candidate, but Cylindromyia rubida is also very similar and also found in Portugal. Although, Cylindromyia rubida is less common. I agree with Ferdy though, to wait and see what others think. Posted 4 years ago
