  1. This is an interesting case in the gray zone. We normally consider a by-product or trace of a species to not be the species itself. As a clear example, a photo of a bird nest should not be identified as the owner of it, as the species itself is not in the scene.

    In the case of snails, it's a bit more complicated as I'd argue the shell itself is a key identifier, visually.

        1. In the case of snails, that would definitely count, since we just made this one count as well.
          Of course that idea doesn't really work in many other situations. You can't make a photo of some foliage and claim "that bird really is there".

          It isn't even a matter of trust or distrust, it's about the photo having species recognition value. As you know, the photo does not only go in the feed, they also may end up as cover photos for species and taxons.
