  1. Wanted to share some Moth Week conclusions, as I want to thank you for you major contribution to it:

    426Moth Week 2021

The amount of moth photos for the week totaled 387. I find that to be a very respectable number! In JungleDragon terms, it's over 16 pages full of moth photos. The diversity of photos is very high, as is their beauty.

With very few duplicates (multiple photos of the same moth), I'd estimate the amount of species photographed in the range of 300-350. The amount of species intros is a stunning 114. Actual new species could probably be some 50 higher (partially identified).

By all means, don't stop, as we're boosting towards 4,000 lepidoptera :)

    Taken from this post:

MOTH WEEK 2021 -- July 17-25, 2021 NATIONAL MOTH WEEK 2021 is almost upon us!! From July 17-25, 2021, everyone is encouraged to get outside to observe and photograph moths! This is a WORLDWIDE event!<br />

    1. I'm out tonight with my camera. Already saw a few moths that might be new for JD as well as my own checklist which now stands a 668 species. Posted 4 years ago
      1. Whoa, impressive checklist! Since my comment we've already broken through the 4,000 barrier. Posted 4 years ago
        1. Nice! My last three moth postings have moved my checklist to 671 species (maybe i'll reach 700 before October?). Two are from last lear, one from last night (Eucosma ochroterminana). I have two or three possible new ones from last night that I'm trying to figure out today. Added another beetle to my checklist also although it isn't as extensive as the moth list. 1. That's just wonderful. I've only become aware of the beauty and diversity of moths since a few years, now I can't get enough of them. And then to think there's 160,000 total moth species known, hehe.

By the way, in some far future I do want to build checklist functionality here. For now, "lists" are a primitive workaround, but it'll be better...one day.

            1. I didn't start geting interested in moths until 2017 except for a few shots of caterpillars. There are estimates for Minnesota placing moth species at around 2,000. I doubt all of them live in my backyard but it sure looks like a lot of them do. So far this year I have added 58 new speceis to my checklist. I'll have to go through the list and photos to see which ones I have not yet posted on JD. In the fall, I'll be posting these to BAMONA but in small batches so as not to overwhelm anyone. 1. That's an amazing rate of new species, and still a lot of headroom to grow further so that the fun continues. Posted 4 years ago
