  1. You are on fire with awesome moths, Gary! Thanks so much for sharing. Posted 4 years ago
    1. And this is not a good year for insects generally. Alternating cool and warm temperatures beginning in March and now a drought with many days above 90 degrees. So far, though, I've added about 56 new species to my checklist. For some reason there are a large number of Pyraustinae on the new species list. Posted 4 years ago
      1. I had a good start to the season, despite the dryness. But, I am getting close to nothing right now. We have had tons of rain and now cooler temperatures. Definitely not ideal weather for insects. Posted 4 years ago
        1. Same here at the beginning but now very few insects day or night. Even the aphids and hoppers are scarce. Have you noticed a lack of Geometridae where you live? Posted 4 years ago
          1. Same here. All insects are currently scarce, even bees. And, yes -- I have not seen many Geometrids. Mostly Noctuids and Erebids, I think. I have noticed more micromoths, but it could just be that I am looking harder since there is less out there. Posted 4 years ago
            1. Very few bees here, too. I'm also finding more micromoths but like it could be a result of just looking harder to find a moth. July is a good month for geometrids here but this year just a couple of species. Posted 4 years ago
              1. Sorry to hear! I had what was probably my worst mothing night ever last night -- 2 moths, 1 mosquito, and a couple caddisflies. That was it. Crazy! Posted 4 years ago
                1. We had a thunderstorm here last night so I stayed inside. In the morning there were 5 inches of rain in the gauge. Way too much all at once but it will definitely help the plants and clear the smoke from the air. I found a few moths at the light in he morning. Some Eucosmini and Limnaecia phragmitella. Also a huge spider. Posted 4 years ago
                  1. 5 inches, wow! Posted 4 years ago
