Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) Photo from Jason's cell phone on July 16. At a mixed forest edge, on a dirt road.

I had thought about driving down to get better photos, but I just couldn't bring myself to go down. I have been hesitant to even post this photo as it upset me so much. Jason went for his morning walk with our pup and came back with this photograph. It seems one of our neighbors killed/ran over a beautiful Copperhead snake. While I have seen them quite a few times in my lifetime (I even almost stepped on a baby one once), I have never had the opportunity to photograph a live one.

My heart still hurts knowing that this is probably the most common response to people seeing a snake. I wish they recognized the importance and value of these beautiful creatures.
1. Oh no! Do you think they did it on purpose?! Posted 4 years ago
    1. I do think so. I've actually seen people stop and turn around so they could run over a snake (it was an Eastern Rat Snake when I lived over in Plainville). My neighbors here are not any friendlier. Posted 4 years ago

        1. It put me in one of my worst moods. ONe reason I hid away the entire weekend. I'm so tired of the South. Posted 4 years ago
          1. I can understand that for sure. I would likely end up arrested if I saw someone run over a snake. I'd yell and shake my fists and probably spit. Then, I'd cry. Posted 4 years ago
