  1. I grew up with the red-legged partridge of the Mediterranean spiny thickets, but I'd never seen this one, a bird of agricultural landscapes which has suffered serious populations declines in France and elsewhere and Europe.
    This was a lovely way to close this little Dutch trip!

The grey partridge, also known as the English partridge, Hungarian partridge, or hun, is a gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds. The scientific name is the Latin for "partridge", and is itself derived from Ancient Greek "perdix".
