  1. Fryslân...impressive. Very few people would get that word right. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Haha well I am a bit of a linguistics nerd :) Posted 4 years ago
      1. Did not know that!

"In Hollander seit mear as er wit, in Fries minder."
"Heal bezopen is wei smieten jild."

        1. Are you Frisian yourself?? Posted 4 years ago
          1. Nope, and don't speak a word of their language. Just found the expressions funny.

"In Hollander seit mear as er wit, in Fries minder."
A Hollander (referring to the provinces of North and South Holland) say more than they know, a Fries says less than they know. It packs a lot of cultural information. Hollanders are extrovert, Fries are very introvert.

"Heal bezopen is wei smieten jild."
            Half-drunk is money wasted.

Personally, I'm part of neither group, culturally. I'm a "Brabo" (province of Brabant). It's kind of like the Texas of the Netherlands.

Obviously, every country has a lot of cultural diversity, dialects, and so on. The funny thing about the Netherlands is that it's packed in such a tiny space. When traveling by car, they say you encounter a new culture every 10 minutes.

            1. Ahaha gotcha! Yes, France has lost a lot of that, while it's one of the reasons I love Italy so much. Posted 4 years ago
