  1. Another embarrassing gap in my lifelist finally taken care of! I'd wanted to see this beautiful wader for a while, and there were about ten at this spot, some of them still mostly adorned in their stunning black and gold summer finery (though those were too far off for a good photo). The spotted redshank is a wader in the large bird family Scolopacidae. It breeds across northern Scandinavia and northern Asia and migrates south to the Mediterranean, the southern British Isles, France, tropical Africa, and tropical Asia for the winter. It is an occasional vagrant to Australia and North America.
