Cassida stigmatica - Larva with Hautmaske, keeping it clean
The larvae of Cassida stigmatica carry a "Hautmaske" (Skin mask) - a camouflage shield consisting of only the old larval skins from previous moults, without added excrements/faeces. In other species the old skins are additionally covered with the poo that this larva is clearly steering away from the shield. When skins and excrements are combined in the camouflage shield, this is addressed as a "Kotmaske" (Poo mask).

Cassida (Cassida) stigmatica Suffrian, 1844 is a Tortoise beetle (Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae) known from large parts of the Palaearctic region.
