  2. Did you harvest any? Posted 4 years ago
    1. Yep, Jason chauffeured me down to this section of the driveway and monitored my feet (definitely yellowjackety in this area) while I took a couple of photos quickly and harvested it. I'm gonna cook it up tonight if I have the energy. It was a little immature, but the slugs and bugs were already eating it. I got about 1/3 of a pound Posted 4 years ago
    2. Also: It emerges from this tree wound every year. This is the largest I have seen it. I didn't catch it in time last year:
Lion's Mane Fungus (Hericium erinaceus) Unfortunately, this fungus was past its prime when I found it! On a hardwood branch at the edge of a dense mixed forest.<br />

''Hericium erinaceus'' is an edible mushroom belonging to the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia, it can be identified by its long spines , occurrence on hardwoods, and tendency to grow a single clump of dangling spines. The fruit bodies can be harvested and used as food. There is no high-quality evidence from clinical research to indicate that lion's mane mushroom has medicinal properties.
