  1. Fairly unique, a photo of this species not mating. Probably refueling to continue mating. Posted 4 years ago
    1. They must have been hungry... maybe the extra hot weather we had the past few days kept them from foraging, because they were all single and eating on this day. Posted 4 years ago
      1. I had not connected those dots! Are you in the area with 40-45C temps? Posted 4 years ago
        1. Indeed- our official high was 107F (that’s 41.7 to the rest of the world…) It was the highest temperature ever recorded here. We coped by hiding out in the basement and watching the Tour de France all weekend. Posted 4 years ago
          1. Omg, that's insane. I was reading a local news article explaining how the max over here was about 40C, yet extremely rare. And it can't get hotter than that, due to the flatness of the land, where there's always some wind. The article then went on to explain that your area could reach a max of 50C due to the mountains. Apparently, hot still air gets hotter on its own, like a blow dryer blowing down into the valley. Ugh!

Do you like the Tour de France? If so, hope you keep an eye on our boy Mathieu van der Poel. I watch this video about once per month, it's an insane win, some of the best comebacks ever in cycling:

            1. I raced as an amateur for about 9 years :) - love to watch cycle racing. van der Poel seemed so disappointed to not be able to win on first day, it was nice to see him get yellow and keep it for a while (we haven't caught up yet -only through the TT, so as far as I know he's still got it - no spoilers!) 1. I should have known, mountains attract cyclers :) Posted 4 years ago
