  1. Does anyone know what these are Posted 4 years ago
  2. Welcome to JungleDragon! Please add a title to your photo. This is a bird's nest fungus (Family Nidulariaceae), possibly Crucibulum laeve. Posted 4 years ago
    1. I'd agree with that - but it appears they may have a new name... Crucibulum crucibuliforme, this must be fairly recent. Posted 4 years ago
      1. morpheme, the two are synonymous and there is much debate on which is preferred. From what I've gathered, C. laeve takes precedence as it was described as such in 1805 (by Darwin). C. crucibuliforme wasn't used until 1902. If you have any further info, please do share!

Seems like both are still being used, but C. laeve is more accepted by the mycology community (neither have been deprecated, however). The only deprecated synonym I see is Crucibulum vulgare .

Crucibulum laeve is probably the most common and frequently encountered bird's nest fungus in temperate North America. Three features serve to identify it successfully: its yellowish colors; the "lid" over the nest (in young specimens), covering the eggs; and the tiny cords that attach the eggs to the nest.
