  1. My first guess would be Tyromyces chioneus (looks like it is on birch? if so, this is one of the most common host species for T. chioneus). Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
    1. Thanks, that was my first thought too, but I wasn't sure because I didn't see any pores. It was literally just a blob of squish.

"Tyromyces chioneus", commonly known as the white cheese polypore, is a species of polypore fungus. A widely distributed fungus, it has a circumpolar distribution, in temperate boreal pine forests, of Asia, Europe, and North America, causes white rot in dead hardwood trees, especially birch.
