    1. This guy wandered in to my workplace. A supervisor asked me what it was. We used to have a mice problem for a while. I knew it wasn't a mouse. I didn't know what it was at that moment. They have a habit of running in the middle of the street. I saved one from being squished. Almost got hit. They're too small to jump on curbs. Posted 4 years ago

Botta's pocket gopher is a pocket gopher native to western North America. It is also known in some sources as valley pocket gopher, particularly in California. Both the specific and common names of this species honor Paul-Émile Botta, a naturalist and archaeologist who collected mammals in California in the 1820s and 1830s.
