  1. Beautiful! I have only seen a couple swallowtails so far this season. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Oh really? :O
We are inundated with bugs right now! I'm working on waking up early (I'm up at 445 this morning), so I'll probably be dragging my moth supplies out starting tomorrow morning. I'm too exhausted after caring for Jason since Friday night!

      1. Lucky!

I have tried mothing sporadically, but only get 1-3 per session. But, I am only mothing a couple hours early in the night at this point. So, it's not prime mothing hours. We are experiencing increased crime in my neighborhood and the police put up signs warning people to avoid being out at night, etc.

The American painted lady or American lady is a butterfly found throughout North America. All stages of the life cycle can be found throughout temperate North America as well as Madeira and the Canary Islands. Occasionally individuals can be found as far as southwest Europe. It has been introduced to Hawaii where it is one of four "Vanessa" species.
