  1. This looks more like a Harlequin ladybird (Harmonia axyridis). It is amazing how many different colours this species comes in. I have captured a few different ones myself. One of them looks pretty much the same as yours.

The Pine ladybird has comma shaped upper spots and no white spots on the head and pronotum. It is also much smaller than Harmonia.
Here's an overview and gallery of German ladybirds I use for reference.

Actually, Harmonia axyridis is another invasive species, considered one of the most invasive
insects in the world. A survey has been organised in the UK to monitor it's spread as well as the status of all other species. They also have identification sheets for the beetles and larvae.

    1. Thanks for the correction. I wasn't entirely sure during identification, particularly also because of the blueish head. Posted 12 years ago
      1. I had some doubts too, because they are so different. I checked a few sourses and found that it is actually a common pattern for this species. I guess the blue colour is just a reflection. Posted 12 years ago

"Harmonia axyridis", most commonly known as the harlequin, multicoloured Asian, or Asian ladybeetle, is a large coccinellid beetle. This is one of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of colour forms.
