  1. Nice! Did you spread the wings? Posted 4 years ago
    1. Thanks. This one was already spread. Posted 4 years ago
      1. That's definitely ideal. I usually damage the insects that I spread. Posted 4 years ago
        1. Even if spread, this supplier packages them so oddly that it's still a problem. They're put on a small cardboard and then a plastic wrap, stapled to the card board. Yet the staples are like 1mm away from several fragile body parts. Combined with how dry they are, just getting them out without breaking anything is a huge challenge. Posted 4 years ago
          1. Ohh! I have received some packaged like that in the past! It is so hard to snip and peel away the plastic without legs and antennae breaking off. Posted 4 years ago
            1. Exactly! Currently using an extremely narrow and sharp box cutter type of knife for it. It's still the most risky step of the process. After that, most I put in contact lens fluid for a while. The cleaning effect is only minor but it does a really good job of flexing the insect. Just so that further handling doesn't again break things. Posted 4 years ago
              1. I use tiny surgical scissors, but it's always tricky. Good idea to soak them afterwards -- I rarely do that. But, I don't have many specimens that I photograph anyway. I think I only have a couple left at this point. Posted 4 years ago
