Zootoca vivipara in the Netherlands I don't recall having ever spotted any lizard in the cold Netherlands before this day, so I was most pleased with it. The truth is to be told though, a kid at the pond spotted it, held it, and presented it to me to photograph. After that it was set free and ran into the water. The viviparous lizard or common lizard, "Zootoca vivipara", is a Eurasian lizard. It lives farther north than any other reptile species, and most populations are viviparous, rather than laying eggs as most other lizards do. It is the only species in the monotypic genus "Zootoca".
