Pumpkinseed (dead) This pumkinseed was presented to me by a kid who was fishing at the pond I visited. Unfortunately, it is dead, although that does give a good view on its appearance. This fish is very popular in household aquariums. Unfortunately, when released in the wild, it is quite an invasive species that wipes out many other species not prepared for it. Therefore, many life forms will be happy to see this one dead. Geotagged,Heesch,Lepomis gibbosus,Macro,Pumpkinseed,The Netherlands, invasive species Click/tap to enlarge Species introCountry intro

  1. Indeed, people don't realise what a threat Invasive Alien Species can be. Here's a review about it http://www.cbd.int/idb/2009/resources/booklet/. Posted 6 years ago

      1. It is a very important issue so I created a topic in the forum as well. http://www.jungledragon.com/forum/19/travel/189/beware_of_invasive_alien_species.html Posted 6 years ago
  2. Yes, indeed the issue of invasive species is huge! Ironically, that is a very popular sport and food fish in the United States. I grew up fishing for this exact species! I do, however, sympathize with you on the destructiveness of a non-natives specie. Here is a link to a recent article about a river not far from where I grew up and how it has been destroyed by invasives.

    1. So sad to hear, and even sadder when you realize it can be prevented. Posted 5 years ago
