Tree pipit resting on tree in Netherlands This is a little insect-eating bird that is quite common in the Netherlands, yet so active that it is hard to photograph. This is the first photo I am uploading where I used my new lens, the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S. Today I was testing it for the first time in the field, yet it was only a quick session. As this bird was quite far away (about 30 metres), this is a crop. Still, given the distance, an ISO of 100 and the fact that it is shot handheld, I'm pleasantly surprised by the optical performance of my new toy. I'll do a more detailed review on my blog soon. 1. No tree should look like that in mid July. What's wrong with it - is it a frostbite? Posted 12 years ago
    1. Not sure. It does have a lot of leafs, there's just some branches like these that are without leaf. Posted 12 years ago

Tree Pipit, "Anthus trivialis", is a small passerine bird which breeds across most of Europe and temperate western and central Asia. It is a long-distance migrant moving in winter to Africa and southern Asia.
