Balkan Lizard orchid

In the end of May we went on a trip to the Eastern Rhodope Mountains in the quest for wild orchids. This was the first one we spotted accidentally when we stopped by the road to photograph the Ivaylovgrad dam.

The Balkan Lizard orchid

In the last years the classification of this species has been changed several times and finally in 2017 it has been named Himantoglossum calcaratum subsp. jankae (Somlyay, Kreutz & Óvári) R.M.Bateman, Molnar & Sramkó, PeerJ 5(e2893): 69 (2017).
