Large Red Damselfly, male, emerged

One of the earliest damsels to emerge. This young male emerged in our garden. In the background (out of focus) is the actual exuviae, stuck to a small twig. They must have crawled out of my mini pond. Surprising, as it's tiny and I figured it to be void of much prey.

As I found it, it was still preparing for its first ever flight, but my approach did speed it up, some minuted later it was gone.
