Common Pond skater (Gerris lacustris)
When I filmed the video which accompanies this photograph, the Pond Skater was my primary subject.
However, I witnessed something far for exciting than I could ever have imagined.
It turns out the video captures behaviour from the Pond Skater's intended victim that was something only observed and researched in any detail, in a laboratory setting, in 2015 and which has rarely been filmed in the wild.
Witness it for yourself here:
"Gerris lacustris", commonly known as the common pond skater or common water strider, is a species of water strider, found across Europe.

I was asked earlier today to send the video to one of the Researchers who did the 2015 study, which is rather cool.
