Isopeda villosa huntsman NB. This image has been flipped for more detail, the huntsman was hiding in the inset of the vertical part of a door frame.

In a natural setting, these spiders would be hiding under tree bark for example. When they sometimes find themselves inside our human homes, crevices such as this provide the perfect resting spot. Makes the simple act of opening and closing doors here in Australia quite the adrenalin filled experience ha!
I actually put my hand on this one as I opened the door. Once we'd both got over the shock I was able to identify the species. Very sweet, it tried so hard to hide by getting as far under the ledge as possible, elongating and flattening out to the max - I love that just a couple of twinkly eyes are poking out still.
Leg diameter 12 cm.
2. The photo in itself was already comical, the story makes it even better :) Posted 4 years ago
