Sacred Kingfisher on tree
Plump mostly short-tailed colourful birds with large heads and over sized bills. Wide spread kingfisher in Australia. Nest in tree hollows, logs, fence posts, termite mounds and earth banks. Perch watching for prey and then dive or pounce on it.

The Sacred Kingfisher is a medium sized woodland kingfisher that occurs in mangroves, woodlands, forests, and river valleys in Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the western Pacific. In New Zealand the species is also known by its Māori name Kōtare.
