  1. This is supposedly a very shy and skulking bird, but we actually got very decent views. As always, it helps tremendously to have a guide who knows the area and the birds like the back of his hand!
    It's also one of Peru's handful of Critically Endangered birds. Since a number of other Marañón specialties share its distribution (or have even smaller ranges), while often being assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, it makes you wonder whether this species' assessment is overly alarmist or whether all the other species should be assessed as CR...

    1. In no way an expert, just an opinion: I think if a species has a tiny range and that tiny range is under threat due to habitat loss, all species endemic to it should be CR. Posted 4 years ago

The Marañón spinetail is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland. It is threatened by habitat loss.
