''Phellodon confluens'', commonly known as the fused cork hydnum, is a species of tooth fungus in the family Bankeraceae. It was originally described in 1825 as ''Hydnum confluens'' by Christiaan Hendrik Persoon. Czech mycologist Zdenek Pouzar transferred it to the genus ''Phellodon'' in 1956. The fungus is found in Asia, Europe, and North America. It is considered vulnerable in Switzerland.

I photographed some very similar mushrooms last week, and have been having a lot of difficulty determining what species of Hydnellum it is. Have you found any leads? I will post my photos here as well, I just made an account to respond to this! Posted 4 years ago
I was just looking at your photos...I'm not sure what species it is, but agree that it looks like some sort of Hydnellum. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten any further with IDing my own observations. I asked one of our mushroom experts (Lisa Kimmerling), and she confirmed that Hydnellum is tricky to ID, but that the ones in your photos might be something similar to Hydnellum spongiosipes. Have you tried posting the photos on Mushroom Observer? Please feel free to share your photos here as well, though! Posted 4 years ago
