Common Toad hatchling
I was walking around the edges of a very small pond when I noticed all kinds of stuff jumping on the floor. The creatures looked so tiny that I thought they were insects. Upon a closer look I noticed they were amphibians of only a few mm in size. Probably this is the first day of its life. In the pond itself I found many thousands more eggs.

The European toad is an amphibian widespread throughout Europe, with the exception of Iceland, Ireland and some Mediterranean islands. Its easterly range extends to Irkutsk in Siberia and its southerly range includes parts of northwestern Africa in the northern mountains of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.
