  1. Easily one of my favorite owls! I saw one two years ago in Panama but it was at the end of a long night walk, my lights were running out of power, and it was perched high up, so I didn't manage to get a photo.
    Meanwhile, this time, after a snippet of playback, it flew in to the closest tree to us, on the lowest possible branch, and gave us a wonderful showing for about two minutes before taking off. A wonderful way to end my stay at the fantastic Pumarinri Lodge, with 3 owl species in as many days!

The crested owl is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is the only species , in the genus ''Lophostrix''.
