    1. Thanks, there's nearly always a tale with me. Here, I was walking in to the hoodoos - set off early morning, in the dark and because it had thundered overnight had to cross a river that wasn't there and then 15 minutes later came to a sudden halt as a rattler, rattled; I flashed my camera to see one standing about 80-90 cms high about a similar distance away, saying back off, which I did - normally take a torch now. The lizard was a nice spot on the way out. Put my hat down for it to shelter under. Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
      1. Sounds like an adventure! I'm sure you know this, but the mother in me insists on saying it anyway -- always be careful of flash floods in the desert. Even rain miles off can quickly fill canyons and low areas with floods that can be life-threatening. Posted 4 years ago
        1. Thanks Mam, we're very aware of that, as we've been down and through quite a number of slot canyons in Utah, from the very popular Zion narrows of the virgin river to places like Llewellyn Gulch miles from anywhere and we have turned back and not followed plans made months before, when the weather has been unpredictable as it can be in July/August in the desert. My mam tells me that too - she's coming up 92. (;¬} Posted 4 years ago
          1. Hehe! Glad you already knew as my heart was racing imagining you camping in a canyon ;P. Posted 4 years ago
            1. Thanks again, we try not to be too seat of the pants. Have a good weekend.

The desert horned lizard is a species of phrynosomatid lizard native to western North America. They are often referred to as "horny toads", although they are not toads, but lizards.
