Ruby Tiger Moth Caterpillar (Phragmatobia fuliginosa)
As the sun finally shone this morning and my garden exploded into colour, I suddenly saw this caterpillar making a very brave/stupid (delete as appropriate0 dash for it right under the nose of a bird feeding station.
Having said that, those hairs are probably a pretty effective warning to most birds, "Mess with me at your peril".
I followed it for quite a while as it searched for an appropriate place to pupate, which I think it found.

"Phragmatobia fuliginosa", the ruby tiger, is a moth of the family Arctiidae. It is found in the Palearctic ecozone. There are a number of recognized subspecies, such as "P. f. melitensis" in Malta and "P. f. borealis" in Scotland.
