Lontra canadensis ssp. pacifica Once again we were honoured with a visit by our family of river otters. After getting out of the water they climbed the rocks to roll in the snow. Unfortunately my view was obscured by some trees so no photos of that activity. Always a treat to see them! The North American river otter is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent found in and along its waterways and coasts. An adult North American river otter can weigh between 5.0 and 14 kg. The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur.
