Green Longhorn Moths (Adela reaumurella) When I first spotted this swarm of tiny black insects, I assumed they were St Mark&#039;s Flies.<br />

I&#039;m glad I didn&#039;t walk by because they turned out to be something far more......magical.<br />

    Personally, I run into this one each season:

    Longhorn Moth - Male, Heeswijk-Dinther, Netherlands Unmistakably the male of the species, with its insanely long antennae several times its body length (4-5 times). I see these moths every season in this damp forest, always on ferns. They are skittish and well aware of you, so the approach has to be very, very slow.
