  1. One late afternoon I rented out a small boat (5 soles, or just over one euro, for an hour) and rowed out into the shallow lake, struggling to get over the floating lily pads and other mats of aquatic vegetation, or in some places, areas where the bottom of my boat very nearly scraped against the bottom of the lake. But it paid off as the birds in the middle of the lake were clearly not bothered by me and I was able to get very close to various plovers, sandpipers and other waterbirds as they went about their business, including this juvenile plover, which was a lifer for me!

    1. You really got amazingly close to this one! In our situation, it was an endless chase, always keeping the same big distance between us. Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
      1. Ah yes I've definitely had experiences like that as well with waders! Posted 4 years ago
