  2. I guess he is hiding because it is to cold to fly. Pretty smart onder that leaf.
    Well spotted and very good photo. Taking such photo's in low light conditions is usally difficult.

    1. You may be right, but it was too hot, not too cold. Now that you mention it, it was almost noon in late August and we were looking for some trees to hide beneath as well :)
      It was flying around but then suddenly disappeared. It took me a while to find it.

The Cardinal is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common throughout southern Europe and is also found in northern Africa and western and central Asia.
