    Not sure this helps ...
    First hunch was genus Syneta - then I found I couldn't make the shape of the pronotum fit, mostly due to this one not having any tooth/apophysis laterally. So I had another look and it seems you have a family Orsodacnidae that I'm unfamiliar with. Looking at that I've found Orsodacne atra that could be a good fit by habitus, but I have not yet found a 100% match of other images with this colour pattern. But it seems to be a _hugely_ variable species ...so ??!?!
    Then I look again at this image :

    and imagine that I could recognize two small teeth in the center of margin of the pronotum ... if I try hard ...
    Anyway, my 2 cents for general direction ...

      It was definitely a tricky one, Arp! I was a bit confused on whether this was a Chrysomelid or what. Turns out it was in a family I'm unfamiliar with, so that makes sense now! :D Thank you so much. I do think your hunch is correct!! Posted 4 years ago

      Also makes sense with BugGuide's little note:
      "among the first phytophagous beetles to become active in the spring"
