Common Buzzard (Buteo Buteo)
I had already filmed four Common Buzzards in the Sussex sky, when walking through some woods I spotted this beauty perched in a tree.
I managed to creep slowly closer without disturbing it, to get this photograph before it flew to another copse.
I patiently kept both my eye and camera on it and was rewarded when it flew back towards and past me almost at head height, all captured on video:
See it in Slo-mo in the latter half of this video:
The common buzzard is a medium-to-large bird of prey, whose range covers most of Europe and extends into Asia. It is usually resident year-round, except in the coldest parts of its range, and in the case of one subspecies.

It was one of those "I've finished for the day" walk back to the bike moments, when I saw it.
Once it flew to the opposite copse I quietly moved to a spot where I could watch it. After a while I could see it was thinking of taking off, which is why I slightly panned back in anticipation.
I just lost is as it flew into some trees to my right.
I certainly wasn't expecting it to traverse that close to the ground, but mighty glad it did! Posted 4 years ago
