Treehopper - Publilia concava I&#039;ve never seen this pattern of Publilia concava before! This lady was guarding her eggs. Females are more likely to oviposit on plants in which ants are present because they have a mutualistic relationship: the treehoppers produce honeydew, which the ants eat. In return, the ants protect the treehoppers.<br />

Interestingly, male hoppers have mating calls, which are inaudible to humans unless recorded through vibrations.
