Midget-faded Rattlesnake Clare & I came to a screeching halt whilst descending the slot canyon, Llewellyn Gulch, to Lake Powell. Set off from hotel (Torrey) at 01.30hrs, 2 hours down the road, then 3 & 1/2 hours down the Hole in the Rock trail - a couple of miles walking, then dropped into the slot canyon (hadn't seen another human since the night before). Just before the end of the narrows we came upon this rattler blocking the track. Ran up the side around it and brought a stick back to move it a little on the return journey. Did the maths about getting to anti-venom - No chance!1 Great day out and a wonderful creature. 3. What an adventure! (Oh, to be young, agile and full of energy again). The colours here are quite incredible, such lovely hues. And a most beautiful little snake, hiding away there. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Thanks Ruth, It took some planning (and finding) We saw another Midget-faded later in the day and it was nowhere near as vibrantly coloured, more likely to have been stood on or sat on. David Posted 4 years ago
