Squirrel Nest (Drey) Squirrel nests are made of leaves and twigs. They are located high up in a tree with the entrance being near the tree trunk. The inside of the nest is lined with soft materials and is fairly waterproof. Several squirrels may occupy the same nest.<br />

Habitat: Mixed forest; this might be a red squirrel nest as they tend to nest in conifers more, while grey squirrels usually nest in deciduous trees. But, there are exceptions. 2. You can see these all along the treetops (and at mid-trunk level) throughout our forests. We didn't realize what we were until we actually saw squirrels building them in fall. They get in a lot of fights during that season too! They are noisy! Posted 4 years ago
    1. Yes! They can get so rowdy, lol. I find the red squirrels to be louder than the grey, at least around here. Posted 4 years ago
      1. For what ever reason, the ones in our forest are very sassy. They will literally walk in front of you and "scream" at you. "REAHH!" Posted 4 years ago
        1. Haha! The grey squirrels in my yard are sweet, but they taunt my cats. Maybe your squirrels have been chomping too much wild lettuce ;). Posted 4 years ago
