  1. With the thumb reference, the magnification becomes really clear and quite impressive! Posted 4 years ago
    1. Except that it's my pinky finger (I think) ;o) This was the single "money shot" in a series of 35-40 or so (moving target) *rolleyes* ... but hey, at least there was one! :o)
BTW: Impressive jumping distance on these - about 10-15cm on average ... not bad for a <2mm midget.

      1. Whoops, well pinky is even more impressive :)
Those 35-40 tries are strangely comforting to me, to reassure me it's normal that it's this hard.

It also brings an extra layer of respect to everything you've posted before. Where during posting I already found your photos and observations great, in hindsight I now have a far better understanding how hard many of those were to take. Appreciating them even more.

        1. Thanks Ferdy. This size is hard enough to get in focus when the subject is stationary. As a moving target it really becomes rather more of a "lucky shot" project ... with it jumping about ~10-15cm after every second shot, most time goes into "search and rescue" *rolleyes* ;o) Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago

Phyllotreta vittula, the "Barley flea beetle" is a small (1.5-1.8mm) Leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae) in the subfamily Alticinae, all of which members are characterized by having powerful hind legs for jumping (hence often referred to as "Flea beetles").
