Uncommon View of a Common Merganser Yesterday, Dec. 28, was the day of the annual Cortes Island “Christmas Day” bird count. I was participating as a “backyard” observer. In the afternoon with the sun shining low in the sky and the tide being high this female Common Merganser decided to fish right under our deck. Our “front yard”!
