  1. Compliments, incredibly well focused! Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
    1. Thanks Ferdy - result of ample application of a well known strategy ;o) Posted 4 years ago
      1. More distance + crop? Posted 4 years ago
        1. No, by "strategy" I mean what we discussed the other day:
          Orchesella cincta - Juvenile Collembola,Entomobryidae,Entomobryomorpha,Geotagged,Juvenile,Netherlands,Orchesella,Orchesella cincta,Schiermonnikoog,Springtail
Shoot many (MANY), toss all but one (or so) *rolleyes*

But yes, of course these are cropped. The cropped "original" resolution for this one is actually something like 2112x1188, then I sometimes tweak the colours a little if needed (auto white balance is sometimes way off), then sharpen, then resize to full HD (1920x1080), then sharpen again.
I often have slightly more resolution than full HD, but not enough for 4K (by a long shot), so I settle for HD and use what little extra I have to "fake" a little sharpness as described above ;o)
What was this program again that you advised the other day for sharpening with some AI algorithms? I may want to use that for some older images that were requested to be used in a book (no "extra" resolution there to abuse for sharpening on those old shots).

          1. Ah that strategy!

The program is called Topaz AI Sharpen.

  2. Extraordinary shot! Their eyes are amazing. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Thanks Christine, and yes, the eyes are "peculiar" - tried zooming in on that the other day, but frankly that is just beyond what I should be trying with my equipment ;-/

      1. I don't know...I think those photos are awesome too! Posted 4 years ago
        1. Well, okay (thanks), after all I _did_ decide to upload that collage, but nevertheless the first thing I think when I see it is: "Could have done with better DOF" ... but I could only achieve that with stacking or much better optics and sensor - out of reach for my current "single shot" tinker toys. Didn't stop me from trying though ;o) Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago

Dicyrtomina saundersi is one of the small "globular" Springtails (Collembola) from the family Dicyrtomidae. Within its distribution range it is easily found in leaf litter from late fall to early spring. It can be confused with other species of Dicyrtomina, most notably with D. ornata.
