  1. Merry Christmas everybody!
This was my first time seeing one of the great Ara macaws, and even though they were far away, it was a delight to see a whole group of them land in that tree and happily munch on the trees. They're endangered and have been wiped out from much of their former range (which stretches from Mexico to Argentina), from a combination of deforestation and capture for the pet trade, but there seems to be a good population hanging on in that canyon.

The Military Macaw is a large parrot and a medium-sized member of the macaw genus. Though considered vulnerable as a wild species, it is still commonly found in the pet trade industry. A predominantly green bird, it is found in the forests of Mexico and South America.
