Rose pogonia orchid
NB. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact location for this sighting, other than south-west Pennsylvania - a general place-pointer has been set. It was a boggy meadow habitat.
It can be distinguished from other species with similar flowers (such as Calopogon tuberosus or Arethusa bulbosa), by its bearded labellum. Pogonia ophioglossoides is considered globally secure, although it is rare or vulnerable throughout much of its range.
Labellum length 20 mm. 40 cm in height.

''Pogonia ophioglossoides'', the snakemouth orchid or rose pogonia, is a species of orchid occurring from central Canada to the east-central and eastern United States. It is the type species of the genus ''Pogonia''. It is pollinated by bees. This species occurs in wet habitats. In the north, the habitat is typically fens but sometimes also bogs. Further south, along the Gulf Coast, it is a species of wet pine savannas and flatwoods.
