  1. Peruvian endemic number 8!
    Only found near or above the treeline within a single department of Peru! Fortunately it seems pretty common where it occurs, and I even saw it in hedge rows lining fields. Its main threat is the dreadful custom that the local people have of burning every year, supposedly to replenish their fields. But of course, said fires regularly get out of hand and burn down swathes of native vegetation...

The eye-ringed thistletail is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is endemic to central Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.
