  1. Peruvian endemic number 7, only described this year!
    This is part of a very high elevation tapaculo complex, which is being split into a number of species. They are far easier to see than most other tapaculos, as they occur in grasslands above the treeline and don't seem to have the aversion for sunlight than their lower-elevation relatives have.

The Jalca tapaculo is a species of bird in the family Rhinocryptidae that the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society accepted as a new species in July 2020. It is endemic to Peru.

As of October 2020, the most recent versions of the International Ornithological Congress and Clements taxonomies did not include it.
