Gulf fritillary caterpillar I know I&#039;ve already posted one of these, however I thought it was interesting to see the face of one, eating its way through a passion flower leaf. Also note, the spikes are not venomous, it&#039;s purely a scare tactic to predators.<br />

  1. Thank you for sharing. You're very much invited to share multiple angles or observations of the same species. For as long as we're not sharing many near-exact duplicates, it's not just valid...also very welcome. In this case, it's only the 2nd caterpillar photo of the species, so now we have 2 angles. That's great, so don't hold back!

I've taken the liberty to edit your description, linking in your other photo. This way people can instantly see the perspectives. Hope you don't mind, if you do, feel free to edit again :)

The Gulf fritillary or passion butterfly is a bright orange butterfly of the family Nymphalidae and subfamily Heliconiinae. It was formerly classified in a separate family, the Heliconiidae or longwing butterflies, and like other longwings this species does have long, rather narrow wings in comparison with other butterflies.
