Putka Pod - Glochidion ferdinandi **I have a fairly large collection of natural curiosities and decided to share some on JungleDragon. I have been collecting bits of nature for years and also have many friends who have shared things with me. Everything in my collection was ethically collected/harvested/sourced and is cruelty-free.<br />

This is a putka pod, which comes from a cheese tree, native to Australia. A putka pod is a small pumpkin-shaped fruit that is divided into segments radially. Eventually, they split open to reveal bright red seeds. The pods are consumed by numerous species of birds. 1. Interesting! How large is a "large" collection?
Makes sense to have one when space on the necklace runs out.

    1. Hehe, if I had to wear it all on the infamous, non-existent necklace, I would topple over. But, the collection is fairly extensive. Lots of leaves, pine cones, seeds, seed pods, rocks, geodes, minerals, shells, insect parts, pinned insects, scat (just moose), quills, claws, teeth, feathers, some skin, eggs, eggshells, fur, bones, snakeskins, ummm....there is probably more. One of my winter projects is to take pics of the fauna and flora parts of the collection. Posted 4 years ago
      1. Of course pine cones. Posted 4 years ago
        1. It all started with pinecones. Posted 4 years ago

"Glochidion ferdinandi" is a species of small to medium–sized trees, constituting part of the plant family Phyllanthaceae. They grow naturally across eastern Australia, from south–eastern New South Wales northwards to northern and inland Queensland, in rainforests and humid eucalypt forests. Frugivorous birds such as pigeons, figbirds and parrots consume its fruit.
