Pinxter Apple - Exobasidium vaccinii
The galls, which are caused by the fungus, Exobasidium vaccinii, develop on leaves, branch tips, and flowers. I've read that the galls are edible, but since the plant host is toxic (Rhodendron periclymenoides), I wouldn't recommend trying them.
Habitat: Rhodendron periclymenoides; deciduous forest

"Exobasidium vaccinii", commonly known as “red leaf disease,” or “Azalea Gall,” is a biotrophic species of fungus that causes galls on ericaceous plant species, such as blueberry and azalea.
Similar species: Exobasidiales
